Keeping your locs
Retwist and maintenance
A wash, then each loc retwisted at the root with a fine comb, on a rhythm that suits your hair and your week.
New growth at the root is what a retwist tidies. We work with your pattern: palm roll, comb coil or interlock, and a light hold if you want one. How often you come back is a conversation, and we offer a maintenance plan if you'd like the visits in the diary.

What happens
A retwist, in four parts
- 0130 min
Step 1: Wash
A slow shampoo and a scalp massage. Your locs rinse and are towel-dried before we begin.
- 0210 min
Step 2: Check
We look at each section and at your scalp, and agree where to take it slowly.
- 031–2 hr
Step 3: Retwist
Each loc at the root with a fine comb, in the pattern you choose, a few sections at a time.
- 0420–40 min
Step 4: Dry and finish
Under the dryer or air dried, then a style if you booked one, and your next visit.
Before you book
What sets the price
The number and size of your locs, how much new growth there is and the time the visit takes. A maintenance plan books your visits ahead, and prices show when you book.
How pricing worksWho does it
Dorine and Emory both do retwists. Emory, our apprentice, works at an apprentice's level, shown when you book.

Questions about this service
How often should I come in?
Most people return every four to eight weeks. Tighter patterns and smaller locs tend to come back sooner. We agree a rhythm with you at the visit.
Will my locs hold between visits?
That depends on your hair, your pattern and how you sleep. We talk about wash day, a satin wrap and how to leave them be.
Do you interlock?
Yes. Interlock maintenance has its own time on the menu, since it asks more of each loc.
What if I'd rather leave them alone for a while?
Say so. Some locs do better with longer gaps, and we'd rather book a tidy than a retwist you don't need.
